Here’s a hearty and comforting Potatoes with Meatballs and Cheese recipe—perfect as a main dish or cozy casserole:


Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika or cumin (optional)

For the Potatoes:

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced or cubed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Cheese Sauce (or topping):

  • 1½ cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix)
  • Optional: ½ cup heavy cream or béchamel for creaminess

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Make the meatballs:
    In a bowl, mix ground meat with onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, and spices. Shape into small balls and set aside.

  3. Par-cook the potatoes:
    Boil or microwave sliced potatoes for 5–6 minutes until just tender. Drain and season with salt, pepper, and a little oil.

  4. Assemble the dish:
    In a greased baking dish, layer the potatoes. Top with raw or lightly browned meatballs. Add a bit of cream or béchamel if using.

  5. Top with cheese:
    Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the top.

  6. Bake:
    Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
