  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 2–3 tbsp Dijon or yellow mustard (optional, for flavor)
  • 6–8 slices of ham (thinly sliced)
  • 1 to 1½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella work well)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: herbs (like thyme or chives), black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry:

    • Lightly flour your work surface.
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle (about 10x12 inches if needed).
  3. Add Fillings:

    • Spread mustard evenly over the pastry (optional).
    • Lay slices of ham evenly across the surface.
    • Sprinkle cheese on top. Add a bit of black pepper or herbs if desired.
  4. Roll and Slice:

    • Starting from the longer edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log.
    • Use a sharp knife to slice into ½ to 1-inch thick pinwheels.
  5. Egg Wash:

    • Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water.
    • Brush the tops of the pinwheels lightly with egg wash for a golden finish.
  6. Bake:

    • Place pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spaced apart.
    • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  7. Cool & Serve:

    • Let cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Add spinach or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
  • These freeze well before baking — perfect for make-ahead.
  • Serve with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce or spicy aioli.
