Here's a tasty and easy recipe for Crispy Fried Mushrooms:
Ingredients:
- 8 oz (about 225g) whole mushrooms (button or cremini), cleaned and trimmed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornmeal (for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
-
Prep mushrooms: Pat mushrooms dry with a paper towel. If they're large, cut them in half.
-
Set up breading stations:
- Bowl 1: Mix flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Bowl 2: Whisk together eggs and milk.
-
Coat mushrooms:
- Dip each mushroom in the flour mixture.
- Then into the egg wash.
- Then back into the flour mixture. Press to coat well for extra crispiness.
-
Heat oil: Pour oil into a deep skillet or pot (about 1½–2 inches deep). Heat to 350°F (175°C).
-
Fry mushrooms: Carefully place a few mushrooms at a time in the hot oil. Fry 3–4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding.
-
Drain: Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
-
Serve hot: Great with ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy mayo.
